Things we like

We like Saturdays. Okay… I like Saturdays. I like waking up and having Ethan around the house. I like just playing around in our pajamas till noon. This past Saturday we had some playtime in the bath tub. Weird? Maybe, but you may try it next time. It is like a playpen but more fun, especially if you can get Daddy in there too.

We like spaghetti. Oma has always cooked home-made sauce and it has become a favorite of all of us. I can whip up a double batch in no time flat. I can’t do it with my eyes closed yet, like Oma, but I am getting there. The last few meals Megan has enjoyed spaghetti while we have things like pork chops. After 3 kid-bowls of spaghetti, she is a mess. Which then leads to a different kind of bath time.

a Saturday outing

We spent a little time this weekend at Radnor Lake. It is a popular lake that Ethan claims is one of the best places to bird watch in Nashville – Ethan likes to bird watch if you didn’t know. There are several trails that you can walk, but we stuck to the paved trail this day and let the girls have fun. We saw several people jogging and walking dogs – which was a big hit for Megan. We were able to spend Saturday morning together and Daddy still got to watch some birds. On the way back to the car, we saw this cool Barred Owl … whatever that is 🙂

Clean teeth, mean a happy smile.

This is Megan’s crazy obsession – brushing her teeth. I think she really just likes to climb up on the stool and see herself in the mirror. Then while she is up there, she thinks, “hey, this is that drawer that sister always opens and gets cool stuff from. Let me try this.” So, if the bathroom door is open, it is a guarantee that Megan will be brushing her teeth at some point.

Happy Snow Day

We woke up to this today. It was quiet, not extremely cold in the house and I was very surprised to find the snow falling. It is so cool to watch. As I type, I can look out my window and see the big flakes gently falling to the ground. Just beautiful.

Daddy’s birthday

We celebrated Ethan’s 31st birthday yesterday. It is fun to see how excited Alyssa gets. Though she was disappointed when Daddy had to go to work on his birthday. And even more, when I told her she had to go to school, “But it’s Daddy’s birthday!” Happy Birthday to my wonderful, loving, silly, always can make me laugh, hard-working husband. I love you.

Community Worker

Today Alyssa’s school was dressing up as community workers. She really wants to work at Publix (our grocery store) when she grows up, but Ethan didn’t think that was a community worker. I told Ethan I could get a night job at Publix the other day and Alyssa said, “No, Mommy. I am going to work at Publix.” Well today we convinced her to be a nurse. But she wanted to be Karen. So here is Nurse Karen.

Lunch with a friend

I love a friendly face. I love just being around people that you have history with. New friends are good to have, but there can just be that awkwardness. Today I met up with Heidi at her new house, surrounded by boxes and tons of cool birds. We spent a little time catching up. I helped her unpack the dish towels and found the perfect drawer for them. I was such a big help. We had a quick lunch, but I am looking forward to our future lunches with the girls, trips to the zoo and just having another friend in town. Welcome to Nashville Houstons.

A book nook

We have had this space in the playroom for awhile. It was one of the first rooms I decorated, but I couldn’t decide what to put in this nook. So we decided a book nook. The girls like to lean back on all the pillows and read for 1 to 2 minutes tops. But whatever. It looks good.

Solitude

It doesn’t happen often. Even the days when Alyssa is in school, Meg and I always seem busy with something. Then when she naps, I usually try to work or clean or something. Today, Megan refused to eat lunch so I put her in bed early. I made myself lunch and ate at the coffee table while watching TV… 7th Heaven, but technically still TV. It has been a nice hour and half treat. But now it is over, time to wake up Meg and pick up Alyssa from school. Then there is the pile of laundry upstairs, a few ends to tie up for work, and oh yea – what is for dinner??
