Treatin’ with friends

When we were looking for houses, we really liked this neighborhood because of all the kids we saw running around. Well, they all come out Halloween if not the rest of the days. The girls dressed up and we headed down to one of the cul-de-sacs that Alyssa’s friends live on and spent most of the evening with them. They have food and desserts and then throw all their candy together in one big bucket for the other kids.  They all walked down one of the streets together and we could just see Alyssa run in and out of driveways from a distance. She had a blast. Now my “angels” are sitting on the couch, full of sugar, winding down with Cars and Daddy. More

Verbs of the weekend

Celebrating

This weekend my friends joined me in celebrating the upcoming arrival of Audrey. Amanda hosted the event and was a wonderful friend: pampering me with gifts, delicious Julie-approved food and a sweet blessing. It was great to be able to share this time with new (and old) friends, since most of mine are so far away. I received fun goodies for Audrey including this amazing diaper cake (or whatever they call them). Thank you girls for celebrating this new life with me.

Preparing

After I came home from the shower, I enjoyed showing the goodies to Ethan and the girls. And I just can’t do that without really getting excited about her arrival. So the next few hours of my Saturday were spent finding and unpacking the baby items. The room has been ready for awhile. Diaper cloths, blankets, and clothes have been packed in the drawers too. But I had yet to get out the supplies. So I unpacked and washed the covers for the swing, bouncer and car seat. There is a part of me that wanted new things. I mean, the swing was for Blakely and is from 2001. Good thing they do not have an expiration date on those. (I am ignoring the one for the car seat.) But I also love the fact that all my girls will use the same “equipment”. I remember bringing each one home in that car seat. I just feel warm inside to get this stuff out and look forward to using it again. I told Ethan surely after 3 kids, we have got our money worth out of this stuff.

So, of course, after the things are assembled, the girls had a good time playing with them. I am afraid that Megan may push Audrey right out of that swing. We will have to make sure she is always buckled. Each one also took their turn in the car seat. A 5 yr old in the car seat is quite funny. So, for now we are ready for Audrey.

Playing

Of course we had soccer again too. Alyssa and her team scored once and the other team… well, we lost count. But they are having fun and I love to see a new side of her come out.

Silly, I tell you

In case you didn’t think the other bucket on her head was funny… seriously, I don’t know where she gets this personality.

Megan has also made a smooth transition into her toddler bed. The girls do really well in there together and I am so thankful that this one transition has been relatively easy. Alyssa starts getting up for some Kindergarten stuff this week, so we will see if she wakes Megan or not. We are going to try the tip-toe method out of the room and see if we can avoid waking Megan at 6:45am.

My silly girl

Megan has such the personality these days. She makes the best faces, screams and yells, gives the “can’t believe you just said that to me” look, dances to all music, shows off, loves to copy “sissie”, and still gives the best hugs and kisses. I took some cute ones of her today, at 22 months old, while we played upstairs .

Sisters

With baby sister and Kindergarten coming soon, I decided to go ahead and make the switch and put the girls in the same room. In the last 2 weeks, they had shared a room at Nana’s, Blair’s and the hotel. It seemed logical to just keep them in the same room when we got home this week. They were both very excited and so far are doing great. It is actually easier on me too, though Megan is still in the crib. When I move her out, I have a feeling that will be a little more difficult. For the last few months, since the disappearance of “paci”, Megan has put up quite a fight at bedtime. She liked to scream at me as I left and continually call, “mama, mama”. Alyssa is usually good at bedtime, but liked to call us back in her room at least once to say, “I can’t sleep.” Or whatever else she could think of. But as of night #5, we have read books, said our prayer, sang together and then said good-night. I walk out and do not hear from them until after 8 am. Alyssa has slipped out quietly a few times while Megan slept, and the other mornings I hear them quietly talking. Alyssa will climb in bed with Megan and play. I love that they enjoy each other right now. I know it will not always be that way. Alyssa is so sweet and loving toward Megan and is just a great big sister. Think we can fit three in that crib?

16 weeks

I had my 16 week checkup this week. Pretty normal and on track. Well, if you consider threatening the 5 yr old and stuffing goldfish in the 1 yr old normal. JoJo’s heartbeat was 158 for those who think you can predict the sex by that number. My 20 week ultrasound is scheduled for June 25th. So frogs or flowers will have to wait until then.

P.S. Along with some of Megan’s other cute phrases like “stawbrr tortkak” (strawberry shortcake), “ank ooo mommy” (thank you mommy), and “ear ooo go, mommy” (here you go, mommy), she now can say “baby JoJo”. She has no idea what that means, but that is beside the point.

Photoshoot

It is simple. We were headed out for the day with Daddy and I thought they looked cute. “Let’s go outside real quick and take a picture before we leave.”

“Look at the camera Alyssa.”

“Alyssa. At me.”

“Meeeegan! Look at mommy.”

“Got it.”

Nope, I just Photoshopped it. (Yes, I am good at it.) But something prevents me from printing these type of pictures to keep for myself, because the event I have supposedly captured didn’t exist. The other pictures actually tell a more accurate story of my kids at this age.

They do a little better individually.

And this is our bunny who usually eats breakfast with us.

New friends

This is our new friend, Morgan. She is much closer to Megan’s age at 2, but Alyssa still considers her “her” friend. Morgan and her mom, Erin, joined us today for playtime and lunch. Megan felt so comfortable with her new friend that she immediately stole her shoes. What is it with this child and shoes? We are very thankful for the friends that we have made at the church (not “our church” yet) and glad that we have someone new to play with. I am reminded time and time again why God deemed relationships so important.

Nobody say a word…

That is what I think when I can actually escape in the house while they are outside playing. I have even been known to call Ethan and say, “Do you know what your kids are doing right now?” Maybe this is common for you at your house, but getting Alyssa to play outside by herself is an unbelievable accomplishment. I can stay inside and cook dinner and they will play together outside. Thank you for sunshine and an old horse-shoe pit that we have not gotten around to removing.
